Bishops and Archbishops

The settlement of Moreton Bay, later known as Brisbane, was originally part of the Diocese of Newcastle. The Right Reverend William Tyrrell was the first Bishop of Newcastle. In 1859 the Diocese of Brisbane was established and the Right Reverend Edward Wyndham Tufnell was appointed as the first Bishop of Brisbane. The Right Reverend St Clair George Alfred Donaldson became the first Archbishop of Brisbane when the Province of Queensland was established in 1905. Each photograph shows date of incumbency of the Bishops and Archbishops in the Diocese of Brisbane.
