Historical Buildings

These images are of some of the buildings in the Diocese which have historical significance.

The Deanery

The DeaneryThis home, originally known as Adelaide House, was built for Dr Hobbs in 1853. It is one of Brisbane's oldest houses still standing and is arguably one of the finest pre-separation houses in Brisbane. It was Queensland's first Government House and was the site from which the Declaration of Separation speech was delivered by Sir George Bowen in 1859. This Declaration of Separation declared Queensland to be a separate Colony from New South Wales.

The Deanery was purchased by the Church in 1899. It is listed uner the State Government Heritage Buildings Protection Act and the Commonwealth government National Estate Register.
