Historical Buildings
These images are of some of the buildings in the Diocese which have historical
significance.

The Deanery
|
|
This
home, originally known as Adelaide House, was built for Dr
Hobbs in 1853. It is one of Brisbane's oldest houses still standing
and is arguably one of the finest pre-separation houses in Brisbane.
It was Queensland's first Government House and was the site from
which the Declaration of Separation speech was delivered by Sir
George Bowen in 1859. This Declaration of Separation declared Queensland
to be a separate Colony from New South Wales.
The Deanery was purchased by the Church in 1899. It is listed uner
the State Government Heritage Buildings Protection Act and the Commonwealth
government National Estate Register.

Bishopsbourne, Milton
|
Bishopsbourne (1865-1868) was built for the first Bishop of Brisbane,
Edward Wyndham Tufnell. It remained the official residence of the
Bishops, and later Archbishops, of the Diocese until a second Bishopsbourne
was purchased at Hamilton in 1962. The new Bishopsbourne was dedicated
in 1964.
This original building is now encompassed within the grounds of
St Francis' Theological College.

Holy Trinity, Goondiwindi
|
|
In
1872, a gift of land was made from Messrs G T Myles and R P Marshall
and the Church of the Holy Trinity was built on the site. On 23
April 1882 it was dedicated by Bishop Hale.
A Faculty was issued on 27 November 1929 authorising the removal
of the Parish Church in order that the site be made available for
a new church.
The Church of the Holy Trinity was built and, after being destroyed
by fire in 1943, was rebuilt and consecrated by Archbishop Halse
on 7 May 1944.
