On Palm Sunday, March 19th, a notable step was made in the history of the Diocese. For the past 59 years, the procession had been held on "Good Friday" and the Church of England Men's Society's decision to change the date, with the approval of the Archbishop, has proved beyond doubt that it was accepted by our people as the attendance was nearly 2.5 times greater than the previous year.

Bands will be included in the procession, it will no longer be a silent procession. The service in the Festival Hall will not be a "mission" service, but rather a time of worship for the faithful and committed people of the parishes. The form of service, including hymns, has been specially drawn up to meet the needs of the occasion.
