Armorial Ensign

From ancient times, Bishops have been able to apply for an Armorial Ensign (that is, an official seal composed of the arms of their several Sees) to affix to all instruments incident to their episcopal functions.

This Armorial Ensign belongs to the Bishopric of Brisbane and is described in the Grant of Arms as:

".... Azure the figure of a Shepherd habited in Robes proper holding in the dexter Arm a Lamb and supporting with the Sinister Hand a Crook also ~"

".... more plainly depicted to be borne and used for ever hereafter by him the said Reginald Charles Halse, Archbishop of Brisbane and by his successors Bishops of Brisbane either alone or impaled with his or their own family Arms on Seals, Shields or otherwise according to the ancient usage and the Laws of Arms."

The Grant of Arms was signed and sealed on 25 January 1955.
