Reginald Charles Halse, CMG KBE

4th Archbishop of Brisbane (1943 - 1962)

1943-1945 War years - had to cope with shortage of priests and finance
  Took great interest in Anglican Welfare organizations eg St George's Club, Mission to Seamen, and Sailors and Soldiers Church of England Help Society
1944 Christian Social Order Rally
  Food for Britain Appeal - (refer Diocesan Year Book 1946, p35)
1945 With backing of other churches, wrote to Lord Halifax asking that he try to influence the San Francisco Conference leading to establishment of United Nations in accordance with Christian principles
1946 St John's College accorded status of Provincial institution
  Called inaugural meeting to establish building fund for completion of Cathedral
1947 Awarded Honorary Lambeth Palace Doctor of Divinity degree
1961 Opened St Paul's School, Bald Hills
1962 Awarded KBE
The post-war years were concerned with reconstruction of the diocese. Halse was a well-loved pastor and educationalist. His services included that of Acting Primate, sometime President of the Australian Council of Churches, and Senator of the University of Queensland.
