Archbishop Gerald Sharp

Gerald Sharp

2nd Archbishop of Brisbane (1921 - 1934)

1921 Gerald Sharp elected Archbishop of Brisbane (21 September)
1922 Elected to Senate of University of Queensland - degree of Master of Arts ad eundem gradem conferred
1929 Bishop Henry Frewen Le Fanu, Bishop Coadjutor, was translated to Perth, Western Australia
1931 Bishop Francis deWitt Batty translated to See of Newcastle
Rev Horace Henry Dixon consecrated and appointed Bishop Coadjutor
1932 Formation of Property and Finance Board
Sharp was not a great administrator, but he was a very spiritual man and a loving pastor. His episcopate was marred by lack of clergy, the great depression, and some disastrous property deals that left the diocese almost bankrupt.
